Gas is completely safe when fitted correctly by an LPGSA fitter, in accordance with SABS regulations. All gas fireplaces must be approved by the LPGSA (Liquid Petroleum Gas Safety Association) |
The building work must be done by a builder. All parts pertaining to the gas connection must be done by a LPGSA QCC approved installer. |
19-48kg gas bottles normally supply enough pressure for the gas fireplace to function efficiently. It is however very convenient to have 2 x 48 kg bottles with a switch over regulator. Please check the seal when a gas bottle is delivered. |
The LP gas installer will be informed about the regulations regarding the suitable requirement. Gas bottles should always be placed vertically, never horizontally, and away from drains and windows. Keep the bottle in an unshaded place as gas flows badly when cold (avoid southern walls if at all possible) |
Routine yearly maintenance should be carried out to check the regulator, pipe runs, relaying of coals, logs or pebbles, bleeding, lighting and adjusting, possible gas leaks. The best time to carry out routine maintenance is in March, before the season begins. |

Always ensure good ventilation. It is advisable to provide 2 vents, a lower ground level one through which fresh air can enter, and a high or ceiling level one through which warmer stale air can leave the room. |
